Each day has a theme. Activities rotate โ€” so every week feels fresh.

Monday ยท Maandag
Greetings
โ˜€๏ธ
Morning Dutch Ritual
Every morning this week, greet your child only in Dutch when they wake up. Say "Goedemorgen!" and wait for them to copy you back.
Goedemorgen! / Hallo! / Dag!
๐Ÿช
Magic Words
At snack time, only pass things when your child says "Alsjeblieft" (please). Reply "Dankjewel" (thank you). Use real food โ€” it makes words stick!
Alsjeblieft! / Dankjewel!
๐Ÿšช
Knock Knock
Your child goes out the door and knocks. You open it and say "Hallo!" โ€” they come in. Then they say "Doei!" and leave. Swap roles. Repeat 5 times โ€” it turns into giggles!
Hallo! / Doei! / Tot ziens!
๐ŸŽจ

Colors
๐Ÿ”
Color Hunt
Say a color in Dutch and your child runs to find something that color in the house. Swap โ€” let them pick a color and tell you in Dutch while you go and find it.
Rood! / Blauw! / Geel! / Groen!
๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ
Painting & Naming
Get out paints or felt-tips. Every time your child picks up a color, they say its Dutch name before they use it. You say it together if they forget.
Rood / Blauw / Geel / Groen / Oranje / Roze
๐Ÿƒ
Color Snap
Make simple cards with colored patches (or use building blocks). Shuffle them. Take turns flipping one over โ€” whoever shouts the Dutch color first wins the card. Most cards wins!
Rood! Blauw! Geel! Groen!

Animals
๐Ÿ„
Animal Sounds
You say a Dutch animal name, your child acts it out โ€” sounds, movements, the lot! Then swap: your child says the Dutch name and you act it out (the sillier the better).
Hond! Kat! Koe! Paard! Vis! Eend!
๐Ÿงธ
Animal Toy Sort
Gather all the toy animals you have. Place them on the table one by one. For each one, say the Dutch name together โ€” then put it in a "Dutch named" pile.
Hond / Kat / Paard / Vis / Eend / Konijn
โ“
Guess the Animal
One of you thinks of an animal. The other asks simple yes/no questions in Dutch to guess. Start by modelling: "Heeft het vier poten?" (Does it have four legs?) "Ja!" or "Nee!"
Is het een hond? / Ja! / Nee!

Family
๐Ÿ“ธ
Family Photo Time
Walk around the house looking at photos together. Point to each person and say their Dutch family word. "Dat is oma!" "Dat is papa!"
Mama / Papa / Oma / Opa / Broer / Zus
๐Ÿ–๏ธ
My Family Drawing
Your child draws every family member โ€” including pets! As they draw each person, say the Dutch word together and write it underneath the drawing.
Dit is mijn mama. / Dit is mijn broer.
๐ŸŽด
Family Memory
Make simple pairs of cards: one with a drawing/photo, one with the Dutch word. Shuffle face down, take turns flipping two. Say the Dutch word every time you flip a card.
Mama / Papa / Opa / Oma / Broer / Zus

Play & Review
๐Ÿง
Week Recap Challenge
Go through all four themes fast โ€” point to something (a color, an animal toy, a family photo) and your child shouts the Dutch word. Keep it rapid and energetic!
Hallo! / Rood! / Hond! / Mama!
๐ŸŽญ
Dutch Pretend Play
Set up a small scene with toys. Play together and narrate only in Dutch โ€” animals doing things, family members visiting. You model the Dutch, your child copies and joins in.
De hond loopt! De kat slaapt! Hallo, mama!
โญ
Gefeliciteerd! ๐ŸŽ‰
Give your child a sticker for each theme they can name at least 3 words from. Count them together in Dutch: รฉรฉn, twee, drie, vier!
Goed gedaan! / Super! / Geweldig!

๐ŸŽต Song Learning Method

Follow these 5 steps each time you introduce a new song.

1Listen

Play song once through โ€” no singing, just listening

2Line by line

Tap each lyric line and say it together slowly

3Mime it

Add actions โ€” touch body parts, mime animals, wave

4Go solo

Child tries a line from memory (don't correct, cheer!)

5Build up

Add one new song per week; review old ones monthly

๐Ÿ’ก Parent reminders

  • โ€ข You don't need to speak Dutch โ€” read words aloud together and laugh at mistakes
  • โ€ข Consistency beats length โ€” 45 min every day beats 3 hours once a week
  • โ€ข If bored, switch immediately โ€” games and songs first, drills never
  • โ€ข Never go back to A1 โ€” if something's hard, use games to reinforce, not simpler sentences
  • โ€ข Ask "Hoe zeg je dat in het Nederlands?" at dinner, in the car, anywhere
